Bulls Edge Stormers in Thrilling URC Derby
Rugby fans were treated to a North-South derby classic as the Bulls secured a narrow 33-32 victory over the Stormers at Cape Town Stadium. The packed venue witnessed an intense battle filled with twists and turns.
The match, a rescheduled URC Round One fixture, lived up to expectations. The Bulls, now boasting seven wins from nine games, claimed their first-ever win at this stadium, breaking a frustrating streak.
Akker van der Merwe played a crucial role, stealing the ball from Herschel Jantjies and setting up a key try. Despite a late surge from the Stormers, a costly mistake by Clayton Blommetjies in the dying moments sealed their fate.
The Stormers outscored the Bulls in tries, but their poor goal-kicking proved costly. Jurie Matthee struggled off the tee, converting only two tries and a penalty, while Bulls kicker David Kriel ensured his team stayed ahead.
Dominant Back-Row Performances
Springbok selectors would have been pleased with the number eight battle between Hanekom and Roos. Hanekom was named Man of the Match, racking up an impressive 75 running meters and seven defenders beaten.
Roos responded with powerful carries and strong defensive work. Both players reminded fans why South Africa continues to produce world-class loose forwards.
