South Africa’s women’s cricket team eyes crucial preparation in Sri Lanka.

The Proteas Women will face Sri Lanka and India in a Women’s ODI Tri-Series from 27 April to 11 May in Colombo, crucial for their ICC Women’s ODI World Cup preparation later this year.

Subcontinent Conditions Put to the Test

The tri-series will take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Each team plays the others twice, with the top two facing off in the final on 11 May. This is South Africa’s first tour to Sri Lanka since the 2017 World Cup Qualifiers.

Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi highlighted the significance of adapting to subcontinental conditions. “You would rather play those teams there so you can understand what is needed to succeed in those types of conditions,” said Mashimbyi.

With the pitch and climate expected to be spin-friendly and physically demanding, the series offers the perfect setting for South Africa to refine its combinations and strategies. “It’s going to be key for us to find the right combinations going into the World Cup,” added Mashimbyi.

Development and Performance Go Hand-in-Hand

While the Proteas are focused on winning, the coaching staff is also looking to give younger or less-experienced players a chance to shine. “This tour will allow us to check which combinations work best… at the same time, we still want to win,” said the coach.

South Africa will look to improve on their previous performances, having shared a series with Sri Lanka last year and suffering a 3-0 defeat to India in Bangalore.
